FAQ'S
"Aaharah Praanah," says ayurveda. Which means, food is a synonym for life. Food nourishes more than the body. It determines the quality of your very consciousness. What you eat, how you cook, when and in what company you eat ... these seemingly small details have a big impact on your overall health, and, ultimately, your life span.
Use plenty of spices and herbs in cooking. Spices are not only taste-enhancers, but also great healers. Sprinkle some freshly-cracked black pepper on your sandwich and it helps you absorb the nutrients readily. A pinch of turmeric in your soup not only adds color but also works as an excellent antioxidant. Combined in the right proportions, spices lend their synergy to everyday soups and curries. If you are not sure how to blend them, try Maharishi Ayurveda's gourmet Churnas, which will spice up your food with no fuss and lots of flavor.
To derive maximum benefit from your spices, sauté them in clarified butter or ghee before adding them to prepared foods. Ghee helps the body absorb the lipid-soluble part of spices with ease. It's highly aromatic and delicious, too.
Ayurveda the Vedic Science is primarily teachings for the development of the full human physical, mental and spiritual potential believing in prevention than cure.
Ayurveda recognizes that all living creatures must live in harmony with nature in order to survive.
Ayurveda lifestyle starts with rising with the sun, eating seasonal foods of your region and building your activities around the natural rhythms of the day are the simple and profound ways of Ayurveda Lifestyle

Routine Matters
Ayurveda healers have always emphasized the value of regularity in everything, be it rest, play or work. They observed it in the daily and seasonal rhythms of life itself, and adapted it to their own lifestyles. Most of it is practical advice: Go with the flow of nature as often as you can. Sleep on time — never after 10:00 p.m. if possible. Wake up early. Spend time and attention on your morning ablutions, including the daily self-massage. Eat a good, fibrous breakfast, and have lunch at noon, when the body's agni or digestive fires are at their peak. Meditate twice a day — Transcendental Meditation is a proven stress-reduction technique. Spend time with your family.
Diagnosis: Classical Ayurveda Approach
In Ayurveda, attention is paid to nature and directly observable attributes of the disease process itself and to the pattern of dosha disturbance in the individual.
Understanding the disturbance, or "vitiation" of the individual's normal dosha is the essence of Ayurvedic diagnosis and forms the basis for the therapeutic approach
As has been stated above, in addition to assessing the dosha vitiation, the physician also must understand the tissues affected, the srotas involved, the patient's social circumstances, the emotional tendencies, personality traits, and the general state of the patient's health and life. Clearly, this information gathering demands an extensive interrogation and physical examination which Ayurveda teaches as a two-part approach: 1) Diagnosis of the patient (Rogipareeksha) 2) Diagnosis of the disease (Rogapareeksha)
Rogipareeksha: Diagnosis of the Patient
The first of these, rogipareeksha, is the true strength of Ayurvedic diagnosis. It includes the physician's judgment regarding the patient as a whole, his temperament, discipline, habits, digestive capacity, intelligence, hereditary traits, emotional set, finances, support system, desire to heal, and of course his constitutional type. Charaka also described a ten-fold methodology for this aspect of Ayurvedic diagnosis which is still in use today precisely as outlined below:
Ten-fold Ayurvedic Diagnosis (Rogipareeksha)
- Constitution (Prakriti).
- Doshic Vitiation (Vikriti).
- Quality of Tissues (Sara).
- Body Compactness (Samhanana).
- General Stature and Physical Proportionality (Pramana).
- Physical Strength (Vyayama Shakti).
- Adaptability (Satmya).
- Emotional Balance (Sattva).
- Digestive Capacity (Ahara Shakti).
- Rate of Aging (Vaya).
Rogapareeksha: Diagnosis of the Disease
The diagnosis of the disease, rogapareeksha, is aimed toward assessing the nature of the disease and is divided into three main activities:.
1. Prashna (Interrogation).
2. Panchendriya pariksha (Physical examination using the five senses).
3. Ashtavidha pariksha (Specialized "Eight-fold" Ayurvedic examination).
Below in table form:
Ayurvedic Eight-fold Examination (Rogapariksha)
1. Examination of the complexion
2. Examination of the eyes
3. Examination of the speech and voice
4. Examination of the tongue
5. Examination of the skin
6. Examination of the stool
7. Examination of the urine
8. Examination of the pulse
These three activities are applied to assess the nature of disease using the following rational and orderly approach. First one identifies the cause(s) of the disease (Nidana). Next, one evaluates the stage of progression of the disease or pathogenesis (Samprapti). This is followed by careful observation of any very early signs of disease (Purvarupa) and the overt symptoms of the manifest disease condition (Rupa). Finally, we derive additional information about the disease from how it responds to therapeutic interventions which are administered, i.e. response to treatment (Upashaya).
DINACHARYA-Daily Regimen
In a changing worldly scenario no one has time to have a daily timetable of events which can be a land mark for each & every day.
Maybe it’s not clear what am hinting at ,let me elaborate –Our age old science Ayurveda has put forward a list of regimens to be followed in a day .
Just imagine the discipline followed by our ancestors which has enabled them to live upto 120-130 healthy years of their lives in bliss.
Here is a simple list of simple things if followed will lead to blissful living .
Dina-means DAY, Charya –means regimens. It sounds silly as we all know that we have to brush our teeth, make our toilets, have bath etc, what’s the fuss, but here are specifications given 100’s of years ago with detailed elaboration when the modern science began its evolution . .
PRATHARUTHANA: time to get up
Time to get up is between 3.00 am to 6.00 am known as Brahma Muhurta as it is the best time for study & knowledge.
VEGODHARANA: elimination of urges
Natural elimination of urine ,faeces etc should be done without forcing as suppression or initiation of the natural urges leads to disease. Instead suppress the vegas of greed, envy, jealousy, love etc hence control the sense organs.
DANTHADHAVAN:Brushing
One should clean ones teeth with the twigs of Nyagrodha, Khadira, Karanja etc which are astringent, Pungent in taste. The brush should be the size of tip of little finger in thickness, straight and 12 angulas in length. They should be made soft by chewing the tip .Brushing should be done without hurting the gums.
GANDOOSHA: Gargling
Gargling with herbal decoctions or oils help in cleaning the mouth from bacterias etc which will serve the purpose of a mouth wash.
NAVANA: Nasal Drops
Nasal drops to be instilled to clear the nasal passage
KARNAPOORANA: Oil Pooling
Oil pooling in the ears help in clearing the ear cavity
VYAYAMA: Exercise
Exercising regularly helps in bringing lightness to the body, ability to do heavy work, decrease fat and create a stable physique.
ABHYANGA: Massage
After exercise all parts of the body should be massaged comfortably. It should be done specially to head ears & feet. This helps warding off old age ,exertion & Vata, bestows good Vision, good sleep, strong & healthy skin.
SNANA: Bath
Pouring of warm water all over the body bestows strength but it should be avoided over the head as it leads to loss of strength of hair & eyes.
It improves appetite, Valour, removes dirt, sweat, itching etc
AHARA: Food
Food should be taken after digestion of the previous meal, that which is suitable in limited quantity. Two parts of the stomach should be filled with solid food ,One part with liquid and remaining left empty for Vata.
Water taken at the middle of meal is normal but if taken at the end of meal it leads to stoutness & beginning to thinning.
NIDRA: Sleep
Sleep should be indulged in the proper time and not in excess. It should be avoided during the day .Keeping awake at night causes dryness & sleeping during the day moistness hence taking a nap in between sitting comfortably is advisable. Sleep should be as much as desirable, in case of loss of sleep one should sleep half that period the next morning without food.
SADVRITHA: Code of Conduct
One should abstain from
Himsa(Torture)
Steya(Stealing)
Anyathakama(Unlawful Sex)
Paisunya(Harsh or abusive words)
Anruta Vacahana(Scolding)
Sambhinna Alapa(speech causing separation)
Vyapada(quarrel)
Abhidya(jealousy)
Drgviparyaya(finding fault)
Those who have no means of livelihood & suffering from disease should be helped
Beggars should not be disappointed, abused or objected
One should maintain a balanced mind in wealth & poverty
One should speak appropriate to the occasion & in brief
One should neither believe nor suspect everybody
One should not reveal his enemies
One should cut his hair, nails, mustaches, keep his feet & orifices clean
One should walk with a foot wear and look straight at a distance of 4 arms length
One should not sneeze, Laugh, Yawn without closing the mouth
Should not expose to direct breeze, Sunlight , Dust etc
Sounds too easy right, immediately a blog in the mind says oh come on I know all these!!But just how many of us follow …Ayurveda says for an intelligent person the whole world is a teacher hence one should imitate the world after carefully considering the meaning of such actions.

I Life style for vata
• Vata is cold; hence consumption of warm food is essential as it helps in digestion and also with the downward passage of vata.
• Vata is dry, therefore unctuous food is beneficial as it helps in stimulating the digestion process, gives vigor to the body and sense faculties, and improves skin texture.
• Vata is erratic hence food should be consumed only after the digestion of the previous meal. This helps to promote good digestion, appetite, proper expression of the natural urges and increases longevity of the person.
• Foods that are incompatible should be avoided.
• Avoid consumption of coffee or tea on an empty stomach. They create restlessness.
• A light, warm, unctuous & nourishing food is suitable as breakfast for Vata type persons. They should not skip breakfast as they tend to be weak. Their breakfast should preferably be porridge- light and sweet.
• Drinking warm milk with palm sugar and 5 ml of ghee at bedtime is very good for Vata
• Eat at regular intervals. Try to follow the same mealtime daily.
• Do not skip meals. This may further weaken your system.
• Foods that are predominant in sweet, sour and salty taste and hot in potency should be taken
• Eating food at the right place and the right time helps to reduce emotional strains.
• Eating in a hurry or carelessly results in the food entering the wrong channels. This could lead to severe complications.
• Eating extremely slowly does not give pleasure and impairs absorption.
• Focus on the food while eating. Knowing about the benefits of food is necessary for good health.
• Apart from this one also needs to avoid practice of a life style that is bad for one's well being.
Recommendations to be followed by persons of Vataja constitution are :

• Apply oil on your head ears & foot for sure. Fill your ears with oil for some time.
• Gargle with sesame oil or ghee to prevent the dryness of the mouth & cracking of the lips.
• Take a nice bath with hot water. It invigorates the body immediately.
• Application of green gram powder is advised during the bath. Avoid soaps, since it may produce dryness of the skin.
• Sleeping during daytime is advised for vata, since the kapha produced during the day- sleep nourishes the body.
• Keep your self-warm. Avoid cold by wearing thick clothing. Wear a scarf to protect your ears and throat. Avoid long exposure to Air conditioners.
• Involve yourself in singing, dancing and Yogic Exercises
• Since vata is erratic, to balance this nature of vata, make a regular routine for your life.

• Listen to good things and good music
• Avoid stress, worry and anxiety
• Chant mantras that are calming like, sham, vam and lam.

Pope John Paul when asked to give definition of "Heaven", said "Heaven is a state of being". This centre fits that note well. The atmosphere and the ambience is all enthralling. My warmest thanks to all staff for their caring and compassion to me during my 10 days stay.
Ramnath Ramnit LL. B. Rtd. Justice of the Peace (Magistrat E) Hounshow, UK
I am very sad to be leaving this wonderful place - in just a week so many good things happened to me - I get back my energy, developed newplans and met fantastic people. Thank to everyone at Swaasthya who made this possible! Planning to come back soon
Alexander Nikiforov. London, UK .
Thanks to everyone here who gave their kind and sincere attention to us during our stay - the wonderful therapists, friendly kitchen staff, always-helpful housekeeping staff - Ankanna, Lingaraja and Rathama, and of course to the doctors, Dr.Rao, Dr.Anand and Dr.Bijita. Thank you for making us feel welcome as your guests, and for caring for us during treatment.
Swaasthya village has a special chance to show a new way of being - to teach that our bodies and the body of the planet Earth are not two separate beings. We will only be truly healed when we can accord respect and love the elements that sustain us; when we care us much about the earth as our own previos body. Swaasthya can be an exemple if it wants to.
Clean air, clean soil, clean water - these are our real food.
Please let all acctivities at Swaasthya be in harmony with the true way of nature. It doesn't matter that the hedges are clipped perfectly if there is poison in the air - it doesn't matter that the rose bushes have ants, when there is rubbish being throun in the river. Our outer body will shine only when the inner body is pure.
OM SHANTI. Robert + Kathe
When we arrived here four weeks ago, we were fluing from a crowded Bangalore to find this place of tranquility & peace. The first think that I noticed was the friendliness of the staff, all smiling & welcoming faces. I'm not the same person anymore. The treatments, the caretakers - also doctors & massage staff - and the peaceful environment slowly changed me, bringing me back to my inner core. I'm very grateful for this expirience and would like to thank every person, who, knowing or not, helped me to achieve this. Every member of the staff isimportant equally. I return with a better health, physically & emotionally, I feel strong & decisive to follow this pata. You are wonderfull. Thank you Swaasthya.
Hilde Sofia & August (Belgium & Austria, living in Spain)
I think the staff is reall very kind. The therapists are also skilled in the treatment room. The food is good. And the setting is beautiful.
I wish that I had gotten a morformal intake and orientation to ayurveda and panchakarma treatment in the begining. I alsothink that sanscrit classes should be offered as it may help us better understand ayurvedic treatment terms, etc. I think yoga and meditation should be emphasized as mental/emotional health is one of the care goals of ayurveda.
I think the weekends get really loud here which is difficult. I would have liked more interaction with doctors interms of them helping me make sense of my illnesses and helping to connect them to treatment.
I think 3 weeks is a very longtime to bein place thatdoesn't offer much to do - not that I want to have bingo games andloudparties - butas I said earlier, I think a more holistic approach to treatment with more emphasis on teaching us howto heal ourselves through yoga, classes on understanding ayurveda and breathing meditation would make our time and money and the trip to get here much more worth it.
We have had a short, but sweet, visit here. Bijita was so welcoming + helpful in orienting me. I could have learned + heard were about ayurvedic medicines - and overview of its principles would have been most helpful. All staff people are graceins, helpful & ready to assist. Shomy + Saroja were wonderful - very adept, caring & thoughtful. We enjoyed our room - made clean & orderly sach day and walles around the area. It isa beautiful place & aperfect setting
fo rhealling & resting. Many thanks!
Candace + Rechard. Dallas, USA

Tiraa Sal, Amsterdam.

We often talk about the destiny. I happened to come here by chance and I can declare confidently that our destiny gives us unforgetable gifts at times. Cosmos is a father and the earth is the mother for every person. After spending time here you understand that this is one of the places where their two forces energing together give you part of them and this reinforce your spirit and faith in the perfection of the iniverse invaluable contribution to achieving this goal. They are real guides into the world of perfection and well being I would like to mention the cheif in particular. His art demonstrate that vegetarian food is not just tasty and good for you - it's divine. I wish health and prosperity to all family and friends, those who took care ofme and helped learning about this new paradise during me two weeks. Peace and Love, Alexei.
Alexei Karpuk. Russia. Komi Republic, Ukhta.
We are very happy, ten months later we returned to this island of paradise in the world. We are shure that the treatments gave us a lot of health, both physical and mental. Everybody gets here atention of doctors, wonderfull treatments and love from personal. Special thanks to the cooks, who prepared a various meal. But last not least most thanks to Dr.Subramania Rao the head and motor!
The area became clean, our first which last time. But we still missed a lamp for writing andreading in the room.
You should use the power of the sun to heat the water insted of woodfire. It is a good idia to use aplace forcomfort for the nature waste. Itwould begoodto your fields.
We wish to come back again!

I was pleased with how attentive the staff was to the guests. I also understand that Dr.Rao's administrative talent turned this place into a branch of the Garden of Edem.
Best wishes, Ekaterina.

After staying for 17 days, feel like knowing all wonderful people in Swaasthya for all my life. A high professionalism combined with personal touch makes this place unique. Doctors, therapists, cooks, the whole team treated me not only as a patient, but took care ofme as a person. Thank you to all for making my time here so enjoyable and so good for my health. I came here knowing very little about ayurveda and I am leaving as a big supporter of the treatment and will follow recommendations given. Wonderful place, great professionals, and very nice people! Time and health are probably our two main assets. I find both when I come to Swaasthya. Professional ayurvedic advice, panchakarma treatments, yoga and food help to improve health. At the same time, walks, sitting in the river bank heed, rest wondering about give me an opportunity to reflect on my life, pray and meditate. I can feel how time slows down here and save on every moment.
Huge thanks to Dr Rao and all his team forcreating such as a wonderful place and continuing to improve and special care it for guests.
Look forward to many more visits here.

The lessons I have learnt and the complete mind, body + soul treatment that I have received cannot have a value to it - It is priceness. For this, I sincerely thank the doctors and staff. I leave with tears and trust that God will bring me back some day. The Kaveri River has been therapy on its own. Thank You. - Keep up the Fantastic Work! Lots Of Love - Pranams.
Jaymati Kunvar. Johannesburg. South Africa.
Panchakarma procedure in Swaasthya Ayurveda Center is really wonderful. Technicains perform together with four hands and act so in accordance each with other, in perfect fidelity and synchronization; even a man hardly can synchronize own hands such.
Results are seen after first procedure! Really, from first time skin notably changed: it became strong and smooth, its colour changed from "urban" gray to "baby" light and tender.
Staff of the Swaasthya Ayurveda Center not only just serves guests, but guess desire is fulfilled amazingly in gentle peaceful, delicate andmodest way.
Herein the Swaasthya a guest feels that guest are welcomed and are giving joy to Swaasthya's people.
I bow to twe talant of Dr. Subramanya Rao. He is genius as healer (physician) and as director!Because, in fact it's difficult to imagine physical and spiritual contribution of Dr Subramanya Rao to create such place as Swaasthya: wonderful harmony of virgin tropicalnature with beautiful landscape design; classic ancient medicine -- Ayurveda -- with modern human demands.
Thank you very much! Be prosper! God bless your business!!!

If there is a little heaven on earth, it is Swasthya Ayurvedic Centre. Perfect Place of tranquility and meditation. Dr Rao and his team are absolutely fabulous. Everyone here from the woman that sweeps the floors to the one that gives you the treatments, does it with so much love and feeling. It is all done with so much patience and delication that it is impossible not to be moved by it. All credit goes to Dr Rao forhaving such a big dream and making it in to a reality. We all have dreams but very few succeed in turning it into reality. In conclution I would like to say that one of the best thing that could have happened in our lifes was to land up here. It is purely an act of destiny. We wish Swaasthya and its staff everything of the best. May you grow from stregth to stregth. Thank you for everything.

Since 2007 we come here every year and did the strong regulated treatment, enjoyed the wonderful athmosphere in a fantastiс nature and holy area. We are sad, that we can not come againe to thisplace because the ajurweda village has to be closed. But the idea and concept from Dr.Rao must go on! This klinik has a high professional standard with exelent results. We wish a good start on the new place together with your wonderful team, dear Dr.Rao and we promise to come again!

I am extremely thankful to Dr.Rao, Bidjit and other members of Swaasthya team for a very professional and warm attitude to patients I feel at home at Swaasthya Last year I was here for the first time, this changed my perception of life and myself, and for the whole year I was dreaming to come back. Now, for the second time I enjoy it even better. Doctors here know the reason for your illness and the remedy, and in 2 weeks Ifeel much better than I could expected. But more to that I am extremely impressed by the way we patients, are treated here as family. All our wishes are fulfilled, and personal requests are favoured. everybody is friendly and smiling. This is the peace I want to come again an people I want tomeet again andagain. THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I wish you success and happiness and will start dreaming now of coming back next year.

The human body to form three life forces or energies, called doshas. They control how your body works. They are Vata dosha (space and air); Pitta dosha (fire and water); and Kapha dosha (water and earth). Everyone inherits a unique mix of the three doshas
• As Per Ayurveda, Every Individual Is Made Of 5 Basic Elements Of Universe: Space, Air, Fire, Water & Earth.
• Combination Of Elements Is Human Body, 3 Life Forces Or Energies, Called Doshas, They Control One's Body.
• The 3 Doshas (Humoral) Are Vata Dosha (Space And Air); Pitta Dosha (Fire And Water); And Kapha Dosha (Water And Earth).
• Everyone Inherits A Unique Mix Of The 3 Doshas. But One Is Usually Stronger Than The Others. Each One Controls A Different Body Functions & The Health Issues One Develop, Are Linked To The Balance Of Your Doshas.
• Identifying The Doshas & Preparing The Course Of Treatment Or Therapy To Balance These Doshas.
• Based On The Thorough Internal & External Factors Diagnosis, Ayurveda Medicine Is Planned & Prepared.

Ayurvedic medicine is a complete systematic approach to health & wellbeing. It has the ability to help people of all ages who are ready to take their first steps on the path to wellness. The Ayurvedic approach to health care is focussed on not only identifying & treating the symptoms of an illness but determining & removing its root cause.
Ayurveda has two features that make it a unique science and separate it from other health modalities.
Body Type
Firstly, it is based on the principle that each individual has their own unique body make up known as Constitution or Prakruti, which is determined by the makeup of their parents and becomes apparent at birth.
Once you know your body’s constitution it becomes much easier to for an individual to live a healthy life by following a compatible lifestyle and diet that keeps the body’s constitution in balance. If at any stage an in-balance occurs, it is much easier to structure a specific program to redress the imbalance rather than just treating the symptoms of the illness as they occur.
Body Intelligence
The second feature of this science is that each individual has a unique bodily intelligence. When this intelligence is kept in a balanced state the body has the ability to flush out waste products from cellular metabolism more easily. When the body is unable to regularly flush out these toxins they will start to collect in the tissues leading to more wear and tear on the body, both physically and mentally.
Therefore a balanced body intelligence is necessary for flushing out toxins, keeping the body healthy by maintaining this equilibrium and preventing problems from manifesting. When these imbalances occur, it is important to be able to identify what has influenced this change and to redress these factors through diet, lifestyle and environmental changes. This is the role of the Ayurvedic practitioner.
Ayurvedic treatment
An Ayurvedic practitioner will carry out a through body assessment & case history to determine which of the three bodily intelligences are affected, whether Vata, Pitta or Kapha. The practitioner will then assess how deep this imbalance has gone and which tissues have been affected.
The practitioner will then assess whether the imbalance is in its preliminary stages or has gone deeper into the body to manifest as a particular ailment and will then structure a specific program for the client to bring the body intelligence back into balance.
Other points of difference
Ayurveda believes that illness begins from disharmony between mind, body and soul. Most of the time the problems & symptoms that manifest at a physical level begin from imbalances at a mental level, so it’s very important to identify a patient’s mental state.
Many illnesses arise from poor metabolism. According to Ayurveda, there is no nutritional benefit from eating only organic foods if we are unable to metabolise these foods properly.
Ayurveda has a systematic approach to healing by detoxifying the body and rejuvenating body, mind & spirit.
The healing principles of Ayurveda have remained unchanged for centuries. Its philosophy does not change in response to the latest fashions in the health industry but are based on centuries of scientific observation of the natural world.
